How We Work

We work very closely with our clients from the first email or phone call through project completion.

Initial Contact

Everything begins with your first call or email. We listen carefully to understand the project scope, goals, and any special requirements.

Load Calculations

Every project starts with accurate load calculations on the structure. This forms the foundation for the mechanical design and the permit document process.

Pre-Construction Meetings

We hold pre-construction meetings to align on design intent, system selection, and coordination with the architect and builder.

Client Expectation Meetings

Clear communication of performance expectations, system operation, and long-term considerations so everyone shares the same understanding.

Construction Coordination

We stay involved with construction schedules and support to help ensure the design is installed as intended.

Our approach is hands-on and collaborative — we partner with architects, builders, and homeowners to deliver systems that perform reliably for years.

About

Jose L. Galvan started in the HVAC industry in 1989 taking orders and driving a delivery truck. He worked his way through the industry and became a Commercial Sales Designer & Engineer. With a Computer Engineering MCSE degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Behavior, he combined technical knowledge and practical experience to form Step Peak Design Services.

His background includes work with Carrier Corporation, Johnson Controls, US Air Conditioning Distributors, and smaller mechanical installation firms. That range of experience provides the foundation for designing complex and technical mechanical systems for high-end residential and commercial projects.

Porter L. Galvan is a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate with Honors and Cum Laude from Trine University. He designs all the plumbing systems, performs all WFU calculations, and serves as the Lead CAD Designer for the firm.

Kylee G. Galvan is our Lead Envelope Designer. She is a highly organized self-starter who performs all building envelope designs and establishes the work order flow.

Featured Projects

Select work spanning geothermal, solar thermal, high-velocity systems, and specialized dehumidification.

30,000 sq ft Pool Room Addition

Designed by Kevin Price Architects • Step Peak Design Services • Approx. 4-year build • Pool dehumidification as primary feature

A substantial 30,000 square foot addition connecting to the main residence. Designed in collaboration with Kevin Price Architects, with pool dehumidification as the primary design feature. The mechanical system was engineered to maintain precise indoor comfort and humidity control throughout the large volume. Approximate build time: 4 years.

Park City Mountain Residence – Unico SDHV

6,000 sq ft • Park City, Utah • Unico Small Duct High Velocity system

A high-end mountain home in Park City designed with Unico SDHV for quiet, precise air delivery. Floor registers integrate seamlessly into the hardwood while delivering comfort across the residence with dramatic mountain views.

Provo Canyon Pond Geothermal with SDHV

Pond-source geothermal • Unico Small Duct High Velocity air delivery • Custom residential

A complex custom home in Provo Canyon utilizing an adjacent pond as the geothermal source, paired with Unico SDHV for precise, quiet zoning throughout the multi-level residence.

Desert Pearl Hotel – Geothermal & Solar Thermal DHW

Near Zion National Park • Geothermal + Solar Thermal for Domestic Hot Water

About Step Peak

18 years of business. Over 30 years designing complex & technical mechanical systems.

Step Peak Design Services has been in business for 18 years. Principal Jose L. Galvan has been designing mechanical systems for well over 30 years and can design complex & technical mechanical systems — residential split systems, radiant heating, rooftop units, geothermal, 4-pipe chilled/hot water, VRF, mini-splits, ERVs and HRVs, pool dehumidification, and snow melt. We specialize in high-end residential (our sweet spot is 6–15K sq ft homes, with projects up to 30,000 sq ft), laundromats, and commercial TI work. Clients include every major architect in Utah, general contractors, mechanical/plumbing/HVAC contractors, and homeowners.

Serving the Wasatch Back, Park City, Summit, Weber Counties and the Wasatch Front from Logan to St. George. Additional work performed in Tennessee, California, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Michigan, and Montana.

Wasatch Front Residence

Wasatch Front residence designed by GA Architects. Step Peak Design Services was contracted to design the mechanical systems exclusively around Unico SDHV, radiant heat, and pool dehumidification. The project features extensive glass, including a retractable glass roof the owner wanted to open even during winter. The system was engineered to keep the glass completely snow- and ice-free all winter long while delivering quiet, even comfort.

Park City Johnson Residence

SDHV consultation project for a high-end Park City timber residence. Step Peak Design Services provided specialized mechanical design guidance focused on Unico Small Duct High Velocity systems, carefully integrated into the dramatic log and timber architecture while preserving the home’s aesthetic and comfort goals.

Zermatt Resort Restaurant

Midway, Utah. Step Peak Design Services designed an SDHV (Small Duct High Velocity) system for the restaurant with minimal architectural impact, seamlessly tied into the building’s existing chilled and hot water system. The solution delivers quiet, discreet comfort while preserving the distinctive European alpine character of the space.

Driggs, Idaho Log Residence

Large custom log home on acreage in Driggs, Idaho. Step Peak Design Services engineered a complete Unico Small Duct High Velocity system carefully integrated into the substantial timber framing and open great-room volumes. The design delivers quiet, even comfort throughout the expansive structure while respecting the architectural character of the home.

Pinebrook Estates

High-efficiency residential design centered on VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems paired with RenewAire ERVs. Step Peak Design Services engineered the mechanical systems with energy efficiency as the primary goal, integrating radiant floor heating, dedicated outdoor air, and advanced recovery ventilation throughout the home.

Rivendell

Park City, Utah • Unico System + UniChiller • Middle Earth inspired residence

Tucked in the mountains of Park City, Rivendell was designed as a distinctive Middle Earth retreat based on the Lord of the Rings. The homeowners wanted no visible reminders of modern HVAC. Step Peak Design Services engineered a Unico Small Duct High Velocity system paired with a UniChiller placed nearly 300 feet away in a wooded area. The design provides zoned comfort across multiple wings, with hidden outlets and whisper-quiet air delivery that preserves the architectural illusion. The system never interrupts the experience of the home.
